Harper Hall renovation earns Four Green Globes eco-rating聽

Setting a new standard for energy-efficient student housing聽

正品蓝导航鈥檚 Harper Hall residence completed a major renovation, welcoming students back in September 2024. The five-story building combines modern comfort with a commitment to sustainability.  

The renovation included rebuilding the structure from the steel frame up, with upgraded windows, heating, ventilation, and lighting systems. Student rooms and common areas now have energy-efficient ventilation and ceiling panels that provide comfortable and evenly distributed heating. High-performance triple-glazed windows and improved insulation make the building more energy-efficient, exceeding current energy code standards.

In recognition of its energy-efficient design, Harper Hall achieved four Green Globes on its recent eco-rating, surpassing the three Green Globes target the University strives to achieve for all new construction and renovation projects. This rating highlights 正品蓝导航鈥檚 commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement. Other Green Globes-certified buildings on campus include the Fitness Centre (2004), the Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts (2016), and Windsor Hall (2020).  

鈥淓very renovation and new construction project at the University is carefully planned to create functional, efficient, and comfortable spaces for students, faculty, and staff,鈥 says the Director of Facilities Management Kris Kierstead. 鈥淥ur goal is to design buildings that enhance the campus experience while upholding the University鈥檚 standards for sustainability, design, and performance.鈥 

The renovation has equipped Harper Hall with energy-efficient systems, improved insulation, and modern ventilation, helping to reduce the building鈥檚 energy use and environmental impact while providing a comfortable space for students. 正品蓝导航 was one of the earliest adopters of the Green Globes Eco-Rating Program to showcase its commitment to sustainable development.

The was designed to evaluate and rate the energy and environmental design of buildings. The program aims to improve environmental performance in building design and operations by finding ways to save energy and water, reduce waste, and prevent pollution, through eco-efficiency best practices.
