ÕýÆ·À¶µ¼º½

Early work is underway at the R.P. Bell Library in preparation for major construction beginning in April 2027. The Library will remain open and accessible throughout the 2026–27 academic year; members of the ÕýÆ·À¶µ¼º½ community will notice some changes in the building and around the area as work continues.

What to expect when returning to campus 

• The Library will remain open and accessible throughout the 2026–27 academic year.
• Access to the basement floor of the Library is closed as construction preparation continues. Visit the for the directory by floor. 
• Fencing behind R.P. Bell Library and Crabtree Building will be removed at the end of August and the stairs leading to the Breezeway between the Library and Crabtree Building will be accessible. 
• Fencing along York St. at the retaining wall will remain in place throughout the project for safety. 
• Roadway improvements behind the Library and Crabtree Building were completed this summer in preparation for construction activity and will be accessible throughout the fall and winter term in 2026-27.
• Some visible infrastructure changes will remain, including electrical conduit installed beside the elevator inside the Library. 

Early work completed this summer 

Several projects were completed or are nearing completion this summer to prepare for the next phase of construction. This work includes construction of a temporary retaining wall along York St. in preparation for major construction in the Spring of 2027, installation of electrical conduit, and roadway improvements along the York St. side of the Library.  

Looking ahead 

Major construction at R.P. Bell Library is scheduled to begin in April 2027. Additional updates will be shared as the project progresses, including information about upcoming construction milestones and any impacts to campus access.
