Corrine Cash
Biography
I am from Irish Cove, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. My first degree was in Kinesiology and I followed this, ten years later, with MES and PhD degrees in Planning. In between my first and second degrees, I worked in the private sector, initially building custom seating for wheel chairs. Working with differently abled people helped me see cities differently, and led me to serve on Housing Boards of Directors with the cities of Fredericton, NB and Kitchener, ON. Before joining 正品蓝导航, I was cross-appointed at the Coady International Institute and St. Francis Xavier University, where I served as a thematic lead on building resilient communities and taught in community development and climate-focused programs. I also hold active memberships in a variety of professional groups and associations: the Steering Committee for Tantramar Climate Change Adaptation; the Environmental Peacebuilding Association; EOS Eco-Energy Inc., Sackville, New Brunswick; and the Steering Committee of the Bras d鈥橭r Lakes Collaborative Environmental Planning Initiative (CEPI).

Research
Dr. Cash's work examines disaster risk reduction and recovery, community resilience, and climate adaptation, with an emphasis on social vulnerability, governance, and the lived impacts of extreme weather in coastal and rural contexts. Her research has taken her from Canada's North to the Philippines, from South Africa to Cape Breton and other parts of the Maritimes. At the centre of her research is a principal concern for those at the margins of mainstream society, beginning from a position of collaboration recognizing that knowledge, power and capacity come in many forms.
Dr. Cash is the Principal Investigator of an SSHRC Insight Development Grant, Beyond Fiona: Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery in Cape Breton Regional Municipality, and has led and collaborated on a range of research and practice-based initiatives, including Mitacs-funded work on flood readiness and large-scale climate action and monitoring projects
